The correlation between quadriceps muscle strength and endurance and exercise performance in patients with COPD

چکیده
Our findings identified quadriceps muscle function as an important determinant of exercise capacity across a wide spectrum lung function. Quadriceps endurance appears to be more than strength, underlining the importance including both measurement strength and in routine assessment for all patient with COPD.

15 صفحه اولPeripheral muscle endurance and the oxidative profile of the quadriceps in patients with COPD.
BACKGROUND Based on previously reported changes in muscle metabolism that could increase susceptibility to fatigue, we speculated that patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have reduced quadriceps endurance and that this will be correlated with the proportion of type I muscle fibres and with the activity of oxidative enzymes. METHODS The endurance of the quadriceps was ev...
متن کاملLoss of quadriceps muscle oxidative phenotype and decreased endurance in patients with mild-to-moderate COPD.
Being well-established in advanced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), skeletal muscle dysfunction and its underlying pathology have been scarcely investigated in patients with mild-to-moderate airflow obstruction. We hypothesized that a loss of oxidative phenotype (oxphen) associated with decreased endurance is present in the skeletal muscle of patients with mild-to-moderate COPD. In...
